MFT Camp Create – Day Four Divine Dry Embossing

August 17th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts No Comments »

Well I thought I had seen every trick in the book, but this technique is not something I have ever tried.  Karolyn Loncon made this adorable dragon card and it just warms my heart up!   I love how she embossed the shaded frame wehre the dragon sits.  It is just awesome!

Handmade card from Karolyn Loncon featuring Birdie Brown Magical Dragons stamp set and Die-namics, Stitched Mini Scallop Rectangle STAX, Blueprints 15, Blueprints 18, and Tag Builder Blueprints 5 Die-namics #mftstamps

I really liked her background so I ended up doing the same thing.  I had not used this bird stamp set as of yet, so I thought he would look great on this background.

I used Copics and remembered reading somewhere that if you shade with gray and then add red over the shading, it makes the red blending look better.  I tried it and it worked.   I always have a hard time blending red.

MFT Camp Create – Day Three Remarkable Resist

August 17th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts No Comments »

Stephanie Klauck made this awesome card using emboss resist.   I did not buy this stamp set and now I am thinking I should have!    Yikes, that happens to me all the time.

Well I have come to the conclusion that I do not own many solid images.   I really wanted to showcase the wonderful products from My Favorite Things (as it is their challenge, you know) and I was sorely missing solid stamps.  I did find some Halloween sayings that were sort of solid.   It ended up working out ok.    I found some Halloween sequins from Lucy so I was able to add a small pumpkin and spider.   EEK!!!!

MFT Camp Create – Day Two Awesome Ombre

August 17th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts No Comments »

For day two we learned to make an ombre card with an ombre sentiment using the MISTI from Laurie Willison.  Not only that, but she used those awesome Clarity Stamp Brushes.   OMG!  It made it look so easy.  Now I have to buy those brushes.

Handmade card from Laurie Willison featuring Grateful for You stamp set and Geometric Grid stencil #mftstamps

Update:  I did buy the brushes, but have not received them in the mail yet.

Although I wanted to try to do a word die like Laurie did, I decided to go to a totally different direction.  I ended up do an ombre blue background and ombre balloons.

MFT Camp Create Day One – Monochromatic Magic

August 17th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts No Comments »

So it is the last week of camp at My Favorite Things!   And I bet these cards will just be so awesome!!!

So here is the badge guide for this week!   So many fun cards to make!

Stephanie Klauck made this beautiful card using Summer Splash card stock.   I loved how she made the sentiments upside down/rightside up to break up the words visually

So I decided to use a coral color for my card.  I was a little stumped on what to do and ended up using a few coral based pattern paper to make the flowers.  I stamped the diagonal stamp on the background and then used some Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink to add some highlights.  I even used the gold ink on the Thanks die cut.

Online Card Class Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 103 – Day Three Distress Mediums and Textures

August 10th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Online Card Class No Comments »

I have always liked using stencils and playing with embossing paste.  So this was a fun day for me.

I have a really bad head cold, so if I make a ton of spelling errors and write out strange sentences, forgive me.

Here are the tags from this day

Day Three Tags

  • Distress Layered Collage Technique

This one was more fun than I thought it would be.  It was very relaxing just pasting the images onto the cardstock.

Day Three Tag Layered Collage Technique

For the card I decided to do a camping theme.  I had the camping Ephemera so I thought it would be fun to do a card using them.

Day Three Camping Card Layered Collage Technique

  • Texture Paste Coloring Technique

This was fun one.  I could have done this all day.  It was exciting to see all the different colors exploding on the background.

Day Three Tag Texture Paste Coloring Technique

For the card I used my new starfish stencil.  This picture does not do it justice.  I painted a tiny starfish from the mini blueprints and added some fun do dads.

Day Three Starfish Card Texture Paste Coloring Technique

  • Texture Paste Embossing Technique

If I can use GOLD on anything I am happy.   I really liked using the paste with embossing powder.

Day Three Tag Texture Paste Embossing Technique

For the card I used a leaf stencil and used the leaf stamp and die cut to make the rest of the card.

Day Three Leave Card Texture Paste Embossing Technique

You cannot see the gold very well in this pic, but this close up shows the shine.

Day Three closeup Texture Paste Embossing Technique

  • Texture Paste Resist Technique

This was such a cool technique.  I love the tile look.  I decided to use dark colors instead of the Picket fence.   It was such a colorful print the white just did not show up.

Day three Tag Texture Paste Resist Technique

For the card I used some paper I had in my stash.  I cut the border out to make a frame and used one of the prints to make a mosaic for the middle.  I thought it came out really cool.  This was one of my favorite techniques.

  • Distress Grit-Paste Grunge Technique

This was an interesting technique.  I think it was kinda fun and grungy.  But the best part of this Lost Relative card, is that the dog looks like my Penny.

Just sayin!

I decided to do the snow technique for the card.  It really does look like snow.

Online Card Class Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 103 – Day Two Distress Paint and Sprays

August 10th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Online Card Class No Comments »

Yikes!  It has taken me a whole week to get Day two done.   Tim does not mess around when it comes to teaching us techniques.   He packs a full class.

Day Two is all about Distress Paint and Sprays

DAy Two Tags

I have learned so much, and have made a mess of my craft area and have stained my fingers.  LOL

  • Distress Paint Resist Technique

I decided on this card to go for the Halloween look.

Day Two Distress Paint Resist Technique

I have some older Anna Griffin stamps that had large words.  This was perfect for the tag and card.  I love the broken glass stsncil and it looks like a spider web.

Distress Resist Paint Technique Spooky Card

  • Distress Paint Lifting Technique.

Day Two Tag Distress Paint Lifting Technique

For both the tag and card I used some valentine themed items.  Not your traditional LOVE type cards, but it works for me.  I dyed the ribbon to match the distress colors.

Day Two Paint Lifting love card

  • Distress Stain Rub Resist Technique

This tag and card was hard.  I must have had this rubon for a million years.  It was almost impossible to get onto the paper.   I tried heating it.  rubbing it.  cursing at it.   I finally got it to work.   So glad I did not rip the paper.

Day Two Tag Distress Stain Rub Resist Technique

I even dyed the cord with Distress Carved Pumpkin.

Day Two Boo Card Distress Stain Rub Resist Technique

  • Distress Luminous Mica Technique

I liked the Mica spray.  This spray can be addictive.

Day Two Tag Luminois Mica Technique

For the card I decided to used the Hero Arts Goldfish.   I also added some bubbles with Glossy Accents.

Day Two Goldfish Card Luminois Mica Technique

Here is a close up.

  • Distress Marker Spritzed Watercolor Technique

I know I bought a Distress Marker Sprintzer but I could not find it anywhere.  I finally had to buy a new one.  I search everywhere.  Finally a local store had it.   I was sure the moment I got home the other one would show up.   LOL.

Day Two Tag Distress Marker Sprintz Watercolor Technique

I fought this spritzer tooth and nail.  When I finally got the hang of it, I was pretty much done.   It tends to move the marker to the side, so I was not getting any spray from the marker.   Once I figured it out, it finally marked my paper.

Since I just bought the Tim Holtz Summer dies, I had to make a shaker card using the palm tree and the words.

Online Card Class – Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 103 – Day One

August 4th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Online Card Class 2 Comments »

I am a huge fan of Tim Holtz products.  I love the distress line and the many things I can do with it.  I learned a lot in his Creative Chemistry 101 and 102.

It was nice of Online Card Class to re-open the two older classes to allow people to relearn or sign up for the first time the other two classes.

Creative chem banner

There are so many techniques I would highly recommend that anyone take these classes.

My one complaint is that the class length should be two weeks instead of one.  There are so many techniques to learn that is is impossible to keep up.

It is Day Four and I just finished Day One tags and cards.  Maybe I do too much, but I really wanted to practice these techniques!

Oh well, onto the tags and cards.

Here are the tags for the five techniques.

Tag Set Day One

Distress Ombre Effect

I loved making my own ink pad.   I was so excited when I brayered that color on the lid of the ink pad.   Soooo pretyy.  Nicer than I thought it would be.

I wanted a sunset color so I used Mustard See, Spiced Marmalade, Abandoned Coral and Seedless Preserves

Custom Ink Pad .

Custom ink colors

I used the Tim Holtz Butterflies to do the ombre effect.   I had to rotate the stamp three times as I worked my way down the tag.

Tag Ombre Butterflies

I got a little carried away with the card.  I was using a new watercolor pen and it became obsessed!

Butterfly Card

Distress Highlight Stamping Technique

I had such high hopes for this one.   The first stamp set did not have enough “body” to make it stand out.

Tag Picket Fence Flowers

So for the card I used a solid stamp.  Geez it took me forever.

Then it needed something and I splattered it with paint.

Now listen to me CAREFULLY!   Practice first before splattering your project.

As this will happen to you!!!!

Picket Fence Flowers

So we add some Nuvo drops on the card hoping you will not see the big brown blotches on the card.    LOL

Distress Off-Set Stamping Technique

I liked this technique as it does remind me of antique cards

TAg Cherries

I used a older stamp set from    I was happy to see they reopened their shop again.  They made the prettiest fruits and flowers.

Cherry Card

Distress Washed Watercolor Technique

I really like the Micro Glaze.   Way cool.  I had not heard of it before this class.  Oh that Tim Holtz is always bringing us something to new to play with

Tag Shell

Now for a little colorful shell

I made the ribbon by using the same inks that I used on the card

sea shell card

Distress Micro Glaze Resist Technique

This one was a challenge as I did not have a lot of spray to choose from, but I liked the green and blues.  Reminds me of the ocean.

Tag Mermaid

I had fun with this card.  I cut the tag into sections and used come glitter in-between the panels.   I had this mermaid stamp set forever and never used it.   It is hard to see but I added shimmer to the mermaid.

Mermaid Card

Well this was a good day one class.

Simon Says Stamp July 2014 Card Kit

August 1st, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Simon Says Stamp Card Kit 3 Comments »

July 2014 Card Kit

I have been trying to catch up with old card kits.   I am on a roll, but I keep finding boxes that I have stashed away in interesting places.

I really like this card kit.  I like the red, white and blue color theme and the stamp set is just inspiring!

I made SIX cards with this kit.  I think I could have made more, but there are stacks on boxes to go thru.   I am sooooo behind!

one kit 6-9

To start with, I wanted to dive into the color theme.  I made a simple card that really focuses on the colors.

Sending You lots of Love

The next card is also a simple design.  I loved this pattern paper and really wanted it to be a major focus on the page.  I pulled out my favorite large word die from Simon Says Stamp.  This HELLO die has been on several of my cards and I just love it.    I die cut several “hello” and glue them together to give it thickness.   Whenever I do this I think it looks just like a Thicker chipboard word.

Hello Blue and Red

For this card I wanted to use some of the puffy stickers that came in the kit.  I die cut the typewriter print paper with a postage stamp die frame.  Which just pulls the whole “Mail/Typewriter” theme together on this card.

Typewriter Mail

To continue the mail theme, I colored in a Tim Holtz crazy bird.  I even cut a slit in card to slide an envelope under his beak.   I used Glossy Accents on his eyes to give him some extra dimension, but I don’t think you can see it very well in this picture.   I copic colored the envelopes to change the color of the paper to match the bird.   I really like this bird.   I know this bird will be back!

Happy Mail Bird

I decided on this card to pull away from the mail/envelopes/color theme and do something different.  I used an embossing folder that gave this great dimension on the paper.  It is simple, yet elegant.

Thinkg of you Gray Crinkle

My final card, and my favorite card started out as a mistake.

I was trying to make stripes and they looked funny and awkward.  So I blended it all together and it started to look like a sunset on the ocean.

I added some black foliage on the bottom.  It looks so serene I decided to make it a somber card that I can send to someone having a hard time.

Sending Love and Prayers Ocean Sunset

I hope you enjoy looking at my creations.

Oh, this goes by so fast.  I wait all year and then BAM it is over.

I cannot wait to hear about next year’s theme.

I am holding up my three favorite cards from this year!

I had an awesome time!

Stamp-a-Faire 2016 – Color Blocking

July 25th, 2016 klwade Posted in Cardmaking, Crafts, Stamp-a-Faire 2 Comments »

I think everyone in the planet has seen the Andy Warhol Soup Cans

Inspiration 1

But I also know him for his famous quote

Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes

I am waiting for my 15 minutes.   I hope it is a good 15 minutes.

Lexi Daly did an awesome soup can reproduction

I wanted something similar but definitely different.

Since Andy was an icon in the 60’s I thought the cute pyrex bowls would reflect that era perfectly.  The Papertrey Ink Bowl of Sunshine Set was perfect for this card.

Color Blocking Fruit Bowls

At first I was not thrilled with this card, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.  Sans a few obvious errors I made, it came out cute and definitely has the Andy Warhol look.

Thanks Lexi for the inspiration.

And of course, thank you for looking at my creations.
